Description

Separation of powers is the constitutional allocation of governmental authority among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches to prevent concentration of power and preserve institutional independence.

This doctrine divides governmental authority among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches to prevent concentration of power. It protects liberty by ensuring that no single branch dominates the constitutional system.
