HOW TO PUT YOUR
TRUST IN GOD

Putting your trust in YHWH (God) through Christ involves cultivating faith, surrender, and a personal relationship with God, recognizing that Christ serves as the mediator between humanity and God.

The concern is your relationship with God, not religion. Each of us is in our respective faith journey.

Once you hear the call, do not hesitate. It may sound ludicrous or look outright weird. Just like in the days of Noah when he was building the ark in a place without water or rain. Do not wait for the ark to close.

There is no formula for putting one's trust in God. Believers from generations past until the present have unique ways and circumstances on the whys and wherefores of why they ultimately trust in God, ranging from outright encounters with Jesus like Paul to those who have placed their trust in the quietness of their hearts after hearing or reading His message, even from the most unlikely places.

There are however some principles that can help deepen your trust:

Acknowledge God’s Sovereignty      and Love

Trust begins with acknowledging that YHWH is sovereign and in control of everything in life. The Bible teaches that God is loving, merciful, and wise. Trusting YHWH through Christ means resting in His character and promises.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Accept Jesus as Lord and Savior

The first step in trusting YHWH through Christ is accepting Jesus’ role as the Messiah, sent by God to save humanity from sin. When you place your faith in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, you embrace God’s plan for redemption and begin a journey of trust.

Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6).

Prayer and Communication

Regularly communicate with God through prayer. After all, He is now your Father. Express your fears, concerns, and hopes, and ask Him to strengthen your faith. Jesus taught that God listens and answers according to His will.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

Meditate in God’s Word

Read the Bible. Most Filipino homes have a Bible tucked in somewhere gathering dust. You would be surprised in what is written there and the amazing life God had intended for you! God's Word nourishes your spirit and helps you understand who God, your Father, is, what He promises, and His plan through Jesus. The more you read, the more your trust in Him will grow.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

Rely on the Holy Spirit

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit Trusting YHWH through Christ involves allowing the Holy Spirit to work in your life. The Spirit empowers believers to grow in faith, love, and obedience, providing peace and comfort during difficult times.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things” (John 14:26).

Surrender Your Worries and Control

Trusting God means letting go of the need to control everything and entrusting your life to Him. Jesus taught that worrying does not add anything to your life; instead, trust in God’s provision.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Trust & Obey

Trust in YHWH through Christ involves obeying Jesus’ teachings and following His example. When you live in obedience, you demonstrate your trust in God’s plan and timing.

“If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15).

Meet Other Believers

Surround yourself with a community of believers who can encourage, support, and help you grow in your faith. Sharing testimonies and learning from others strengthens your trust in God.

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another” (Hebrews 10:25).

Remember God’s Faithfulness

Remember how God took care of you or your loved ones in the past. How He was gracious to you and provided for you. Even before you placed your trust in Him, He had already been preserving you and keeping you close to Him. Recalling His past faithfulness helps you trust Him with your present and future challenges.

“Remember the wonders He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He pronounced” (Psalm 105:5).

Persevere in the Faith

Trusting God through Christ is a lifelong journey. Stay committed to deepening your relationship with Him, especially during trials. Perseverance in faith, even in difficulties, strengthens your trust in YHWH.

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12).
